Omfg hi there!! I'm armenian too!!! I think you should do that blog about the armenian genocide:) its a lovely idea. I have this rlly good site that might help. My bff's aunt made it and all the research was also done by her.
@fiesty-melanie-stryderhey! i’m sorry i got to your question so late—i just found it in my inbox (for some reason i saw no notification, maybe because it arrived while i was on a three-day hiatus from tumblr?). great to meet you! my name is maddie—my armenian name is johar/kohar.
i’ve been really, really busy with schoolwork (yeah, school’s not over for me yet, and honestly friday couldn’t come sooner) so i haven’t really had time to develop our-armenia, but it’s in the works. a few ideas i’m considering include a submissions section for genocide stories submitted by descendants and a collection of portraits/images of survivors and their descendants, because all armenians, even those born in the 90’s and even the twenty-first century, are deeply impacted by the denial of their ancestors’ genocide.
this blog is REALLY important to me, and after it’s launched i’m going to start looking for moderators—that is, anyone in the armenian community on tumblr (literally anybody who is ethnically armenian, in part or fully) and who demonstrates an interest in the genocide and is willing and able to work on the site. i’m not quite sure how that’s going to work at this point, but i’ll let you know.
i’d be so happy if you could send me the link to the site you mentioned.
thanks for contacting me :)

i am regularly baffled by the expectation that women of color, especially black women, owe people explanations for everything. tumblr is an easy microcosm to point to, but it’s pervasive damn near everywhere.
- wanna be treated like a human? you better have a nice academic jargon-filled justification for that because last we heard, women of color were just breathing cadavers!
- don’t like it when someone calls you the n-word? your discomfort isn’t enough! you better give them a crash course on american racism, history, and language in one easily digestible soundbite!
- racism in the media? HAVE YOU SEEN EVERY MOVIE EVER CREATED? IF NOT YOU CAN’T SPEAK! YOU BETTER HAVE RECEIPTS! WHERE ARE YOUR FOOTNOTES? LEMME SEE THE CITATIONS! BUST THEM OUT NOW!
of course this is DOUBLY insulting because the people demanding answers are usually those with disproportionate access to knowledge, education, and other resources that would enable them to easily find the answers to their questions if they would actually look instead of demanding that women of color sweat answers into their palms.
